The MINI Cooper

THE EVERYDAY HERO.

The MINI is a small economy car made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), well known today as BMW. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s. Its space-saving front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80 per cent of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers. The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent of its German contemporary the Volkswagen Beetle.

In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century. This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowleyplants in England, the Victoria Park / Zetland British Motor Corporation (Australia) factory in Sydney, Australia, and later also in Spain (Authi), Belgium, Chile, Italy (Innocenti), Malta, Portugal, South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mark I had three major UK updates – the Mark II, the Clubman and the Mark III. Within these was a series of variations, including an estate car, a pick-up truck, a van and the Mini Moke – a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars.

Looks like a go-kart, feels like a go-kart − but for grown-ups, of course. With radiator grille bars and tailgate handle in gleaming chrome and contrast roof in black or white (with exterior mirror caps to match). And all of this running on sporty 15-inch light-alloy wheels as standard.

ROOMINESS.
 THE WONDERS OF INNER SPACE.
Thanks to the 50:50 split-folding rear seats, there's room for four people plus luggage in a MINI. In fact, with all the extra storage space, you may well run out of things to load it with.

TECH SPEC.
 ALL THE DATA & FACTS.
A perfect win-win situation: A top speed of 203 km/h, 122 hp pure power – and all that with a fuel consumption of only 5.8 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 136 g/km.

DIMENSIONS.
 BORN TO CORNER.
Wide track, long wheelbase, short overhangs, low centre of gravity and "a wheel in each corner" – in other words, a natural athlete.
